red lentil bagel

Baking a Red Lentil Bun at home feels surprisingly simple and rewarding. Do you ever look at standard bread and wonder if you could try something a little different? I find myself thinking about that a lot. Regular bread tastes good, but baking your own protein-packed buns brings a nice sense of accomplishment. You get a beautiful, natural color from the beetroot, and the lentils keep you full for hours.

I remember the first time I tried making these. My kitchen looked a bit messy, but the smell coming from the oven made it totally worth it. We often settle for store-bought buns because making bread seems complicated. But what if I told you this recipe requires zero kneading? You just blend, shape, and bake. You control exactly what goes into your oven, which means no mystery ingredients. I tested this recipe a few times before getting the texture just right, so you skip the trial and error. Why not try baking something new this weekend?

Why This Red Lentil Bun Deserves A Spot In Your Kitchen

Let’s talk about the perks of making this recipe. These red lentil buns pack good nutrition without tasting plain, which we can all appreciate. You get a fantastic source of plant-based protein, a stunning natural color, and a soft texture that holds together perfectly.

My Favorite Ways To Serve Them

I love using them for mini sliders or just eating them warm with a generous smear of butter. Have you ever tried serving colorful food to picky eaters? It often makes them curious. They see bright pink bread and suddenly want to give it a try.

Tools And Prep For A Smooth Baking Session

You do not need fancy, expensive equipment to pull this off. A standard, reliable blender does most of the heavy lifting here. Make sure you prep your ingredients ahead of time to keep the process smooth. Soaking the lentils overnight saves you time later. Honestly, skipping the soak just makes blending harder, tbh.

I always keep my parchment paper ready on the baking sheet so I can transfer the shaped buns quickly. Having everything in arm’s reach makes baking feel like a relaxing weekend project.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Overnight soaked Red Lentil
  • 1 Boiled Beetroot
  • 4 tbsp Psyllium Husk
  • 1.5 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1/4 Cup Yoghurt
  • 1/4 tbsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tspn Red Chilli Powder
  • 2 tbsp Fried Onion
  • 1 Pod Garlic
  • 1/2 tspn Salt
  • 1-2 tbsp Water If Needed
  • 1 tbsp Black & White Sesame Seeds

Instructions

  • Wash and soak lentil overnight or for at least 4-5 hours.
  • Drain all the water then add it to a blender along with other ingredients.
  • For faster grinding, it’s better to cut the boiled beetroot and garlic into small pieces too.
I only add water if needed because soaked lentils already have some water in them.
Too much water makes paste runny and with a runny paste the buns will puff up like tortillas on top.
  • Grind everything to make paste or Coarsly if you like.
  • Now make small balls then shape them to bun.
  • Place them into a baking tray with a parchment paper.
  • Brush with milk on top then sprinkle white and black sesame seeds.
  • Preheat the oven to 350F( 180C).
  • Bake for 30 mins or until golden on top.
  • For a visual reference you can watch our video linked below.
  • Remove from the oven and let them cool for 5-10 then Enjoy😋
  • You can easily store them in the fridge in a ziplock bag or airtight container for up to 7 days.
