Spicy Potatoes From Sri Lanka

This Sri Lankan Devilled Potatoes is a vibrant and flavour packed dish. Potatoes are marinated, fried until golden and then tossed with onions, bell peppers and spices in sweet, spicy and tangy sauce. The combination of chili, soy sauce and tomato ketchup creates a perfect balance of heat, smokiness and slight sweetness making every bite bold and irresistible.

I already made a video of the devilled chicken recipe and it turned out so delicious that I thought why not ? try it with potatoes because potatoes are almost everyone’s favourite. What makes this recipe special is how quickly it comes together while still tasting like a feast. Devilled Chicken is popular party dish in Sri Lanka often served sizzling hot but it’s just as perfect for a family dinner when you want something different and full of flavour. Whether you enjoy it with rice, noodles or even on its own so this devilled potato is sure to impress and keep you coming back for more.

Ingredients

  • 250 gm Baby Potatoes
  • 3-4 pods Fine Chopped Garlic
  • Thumb Size Julienne Ginger
  • 15-20 Curry Leaves
  • 1 1/2 tspn Black Pepper for Cooking and Marination
  • Salt for Cooking and Marination
  • 1 tspn Paprika
  • 1 tspn Chili Flakes
  • 2 tspn Soy Sauce
  • 3-4 tspn Tomato Ketchup
  • 1/2 tspn Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Chopped Leek
  • 1/2 Cup Onion
  • 1 Cup Bell Pepper (Red, Green, Yellow)
  • 1/2 Cup Tomato
  • 4-5 Green Chili
  • 1/2 Cup Green Onion
  • 1/2 Lemon
  • Oil for Frying and Cooking

Instructions
 

  • Start by cutting the potatoes into wedges and placing them in a bowl.
  • Marinate with salt, pepper, paprika and lemon juice. Mix well cover and let it rest for at least 15 min.
  • Now on medium high heat fry the potatoes until golden and fully cooked.
  • In a pan heat oil add garlic, ginger and curry leaves let them roast until golden.
  • Add chilli flakes, black pepper, soy sauce, ketchup, salt and sugar. Mix well and let it cook for a minute.
  • Now add leek, onion and bell pepper then mix everything together.
  • Add the fried potatoes and tomato, Mix well cover and cook for about 30 seconds more.
  • Now add green chilli and green onion, cover and cook for a few seconds but do not overcook.
