Soft, chocolaty and full of comfort, This chocolate roti is a sweet twist on the everyday flatbread. It combines the warmth of roti with the rich taste of cocoa, making it a treat you can enjoy for breakfast, snacks or even dessert. Whether you pair it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a drizzle of honey or just a warm cup of milk, This roti is sure to bring a smile with every bite. Simple to make, yet full of flavour, It’s a little piece of happiness straight from the pan.

This Roti Is Round, Sweet, and Totally Chocolatious!

If I have to describe this roti in one word I would say it’s chocolatious, yes! sweet and delicious. Like all the rotis I’ve made before it’s round, simple to prepare and you just need to follow the instructions (and of course watch my video and subscribe too 😉). Now why am I making different kinds of rotis and why this chocolate roti? The answer is simple but very important, I grew up in an Indian family where roti is a part of every meal. In almost every household roti holds such an important place without it a meal feels incomplete and it’s not only cultural but also healthy as it brings fibre and balance to our plates.

Just Like Bread and Noodles—Roti Deserves Variety Too

When you look around the world you see varieties of breads, noodles and tortillas each evolving with new flavours and styles. Noodles alone come in so many forms like ramen, udon, lo mein, rice vermicelli, pho, shirataki, konjac and even veggie noodles. The same with tortillas: multigrain, protein-rich, flavoured and more and bread has endless varieties too like sourdough, focaccia, sandwich bread, challah, wholemeal, potato bread, cornmeal bread, protein bread, sweet bread…the list goes on. So I thought if bread, noodles and tortillas can have so many varieties then why not roti? That’s how the idea came to me and this Chocolate Roti is one of those varieties.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Wheat Flour
  • 1 tbsp Cocoa Powder
  • 1/4 Cup Maple Syrup
  • 3/4 Cup Milk
  • 1/4 tspn Cinnamon Powder
  • 1/4 tspn Salt

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl add flour, cinnamon powder, cocoa powder, salt, maple syrup and milk. Mix everything well to form a soft dough.
  • Before finishing add olive oil and knead it again until smooth.
  • Divide the dough into small and equal-sized balls.
  • On a lightly floured surface roll each ball into a thin, round shape with a rolling pin.
  • Heat a flat pan (tawa) and place the rolled roti on it. Cook one side until bubbles form then flip it, Now cook the other side and press gently with a cloth or spatula.
  • Apply butter on top as butter will keep roti soft for long time.
  • Enjoy this chocolate roti with hot or cold cup of milk, sweet yogurt or simply as it is or with a scoop of Ice cream.
