Milky Paratha: A Nostalgic Taste of My Childhood
This milky paratha is not just a paratha, It’s the kind where every bite bursts with happiness in your mouth and floods your heart with endless childhood memories. I remember a beautiful and cute story, one that I’m sure happened in almost every house with siblings.

Reminds Me of Stealing Milk Powder as a Kid 😊
Back then there was no online shopping. If we needed something, we had to run to the grocery store and oh!! those times when unexpected guests arrived! That’s when mummy would suddenly realize there were no biscuits or snacks left in the house because we had secretly finished them all behind her back 😉😁.
While the guests sat in the other room she would quickly scold us and then send one of us running to the nearest shop to buy some snacks as fast as we could. In our area there were hardly three or four grocery shops. Papa always made a long monthly list and one big 1 kg packet of milk powder was always included for emergencies like when milk ran out but guests came over and Offering tea was (and still is) such an important part of Indian culture.
But papa never figured out how the milk powder disappeared in just two weeks. He would sometimes ask mummy how it was even possible milk gone and now milk powder too! Only mummy knew it was us kids sneaking into the kitchen. During study time or just out of boredom, one spoon of milk powder each was our little guilty pleasure. And of course if one child took some all the siblings had to join in to keep it secret from mummy, we all stuck together 😁.
Sometimes when mummy made a vegetable we didn’t like, we would take a spoon of milk powder mix it with sugar and eat it with paratha. Uff!! I can’t explain how delicious it tasted but I can still feel it in my heart, those were such simple joys. This memory inspired me to create milk paratha today. I sometimes make it for my little one and she enjoys it so much. I hope you try it too..It’s simple, comforting and full of love. Adding an egg is optional, I add it sometimes for extra taste but even without it also this paratha is just as delicious.
Lets make it…

- Before finishing add a little oil to the dough and knead once more until it becomes smooth and soft.
- On a rolling surface sprinkle some flour and divide the dough into medium size portions.
- On a lightly floured surface roll each ball into a thin round shape with a rolling pin.
- Brush a little oil on the paratha then add milk powder and sugar. Mix them together and spread evenly all over the paratha with your hand.
- Fold the paratha once and brush a little oil then fold it again into a square shape.
- With the help of a rolling pin roll each piece into a square shaped paratha.
- Heat a pan on medium heat and place the paratha on it , Once the bottom is set, drizzle a little on pan then flip and cook the other side too until golden.
- Once both sides are cooked and crisp, your paratha is ready to enjoy with your favorite sides.
- It tastes delicious with chocolate sauce or a glass of hot milk but my favourite way to enjoy it is with a cup of tea.
- Enjoy😋
