What Makes This Recipe Special

  • The sweetness of honey and the tanginess of orange give this recipe a unique flavor.
  • Tender and Juicy Chicken
  • A beginner-friendly recipe that’s really easy to make.

A Perfect Balance of Sweet & Tangy Flavours

I didn’t add brown sugar to this recipe because I feel the natural sweetness of orange mixed with honey and spices gives the perfect balance. It is not too sweet and not too tangy, just perfectly balanced. But if you prefer a slightly sweeter taste, you can always add a little brown sugar.

Fresh Oranges Are a Game Changer

This is definitely a simple recipe for lunch or dinner but for me, it also looks quite fancy and beautiful. The shiny orange glaze makes it perfect for family gatherings, dinner with friends or even a special occasion. Trust me, everyone will enjoy it.

I also added fresh orange pieces to the chicken. This is completely optional, so you can skip them if you don’t like orange pieces in your food. But I personally feel they enhance the orange flavor even more. While eating, you can enjoy those juicy orange pieces soaked in the sweet, tangy and spicy glaze and trust me, the flavor is just mind-blowing. 😄

  • Salt & Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Crushed Ginger Garlic
  • 1 Cup Orange Juice
  • Orange Zest
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
  • 1-2 tbsp Chilli Garlic Sauce
  • 1/2 Orange Slices
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp corn flour

Instructions

  • In a bowl marinate the chicken thighs with onion, garlic, red chilli powder, black pepper and salt.
  • Now heat oil in a pan and cook the chicken on both sides until it turns golden brown.
  • You can change the pan and use the leftover oil or simply continue cooking in the same pan.
  • In the pan add crushed ginger and garlic and sauté until lightly golden then add the orange juice.
  • Add honey, soy sauce, chilli garlic sauce and orange zest. Mix well and let the sauce simmer for a few minutes.
  • Now add the cornflour slurry, Once the gravy starts to thicken add the roasted chicken along with the orange pieces.
  • Let it cook until the chicken is well coated with the gravy and the sauce reaches your desired consistency.
  • For a visual reference you can watch our video linked below.
  • Serve hot with steamed rice or jeera rice along with your favourite salad or side dish.
  • After cooling, If the gravy becomes too thick add a little hot water or orange juice to adjust the consistency before serving.
Adjust the amount of spices according to your taste. You can also add more orange slices or simply skip them if you prefer.
Here I didn’t rest the chicken after marinating but if you want a stronger orange flavour add 1/4 cup of orange juice to the marinade and let the chicken rest for 3–4 hours or overnight.
